Adidas Originals To Enter Metaverse With NFT Drop, Partners With Bored Ape Yacht Club, GMoney, And PUNKS Comics

While still in the preliminary stages, Adidas has announced that the digital asset offered up during the initial sale will act as an access token, locking in holders’ exclusive access to future merchandise, both physical and digital products and services, and rewards within the newly attained land plot in The Sandbox among other yet to be released benefits.

Adidas Originals announced their first steps into the Metaverse on December 2, saying digital worlds that make up the metaverse will be a place “where anyone can express their most original ideas and be their most authentic selves.” Adidas also made a parallel announcement that they purchased Ape #8774, a blue-furred ape decked out in heart rimmed glasses, a gold hoop earning, and a fishman’s digs, on Sept 17th for 46ETH, valued at around $150,000 at the time. During Adidas NFT/Metaverse  announcement, Ape #8774 was decked put in an Adidas tracksuit along with the logos of the three partners, and a side-ways Adidas logo for good measure.

As 2021 comes to a close, a number of global corporations, high profile celebrities,  and cultural influencers have announced their plans to develop, coordinate, or participate within the NFT and metaverse space as the opportunities of the Web3 event become more and more clear.
